Emergency Clinician Immersion Program

Emergency Clinician Immersion Program Goals

Led by the Director of Emergency Development (DVM, 7+ year ER experience) and the Medical Director (DVM, DACVECC), the Immersion Program provides a supportive and challenging environment for veterinarians interested in working in the rewarding field of emergency medicine. This comprehensive program will supply the structure for clinicians to gain proficiency in emergency medicine in an efficient, medically advanced, financially responsible, compassionate, and emotionally healthy manner. With continued resources and support, direct mentorship, and a wide variety of cases, the clinician will graduate from the program with the ability, confidence, and emotional resilience to not only continue, but truly enjoy a career in veterinary emergency medicine.

The program provides mentorship and resources that reinforce and foster qualities known to increase the success and personal satisfaction of clinicians in an emergency setting.

Emergency Clinician Immersion Program Structure

The Immersion Program emphasizes hands on, practical learning in an emergency/specialty setting, while also providing:

  • Direct mentorship through the first 6 months of training, and continued support thereafter in our collaborative environment of emergency and specialty doctors
  • Didactic learning focused on emergency and other relevant topics
  • Cadaver skills labs, point of care ultrasound training, CPR training and certification
  • Self-assessments and individual goal-oriented training
  • Self-preservation training (life/work balance, avoiding burnout and fatigue, stress resilience)
  • Communication and leadership training
  • Support from our onsite social worker
  • Highly skilled and knowledgeable support staff (including VTS certified LVTs)

  • 24hr treatment area overseen by docs, techs, veterinary assistants. 
  • Ultrasound suite, onsite CT 
  • Robust in-house lab and adjacent onsite Idexx Lab hub 
  • Physical rehab suite with pool, underwater treadmill, etc.
