Led by renowned parasitologists, this session prepares veterinary professionals to recognize, diagnose, and manage Screwworm infestations (Cochliomyia hominivorax) in companion animals, a significant concern due to rapid tissue damage and public health risks. Participants will learn about clinical signs, sampling, treatment protocols, and strategies for biosecurity and client communication. The lecture includes real-world visuals and case examples to enhance confidence and effectiveness in addressing suspected cases.

Through this virtual event, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize clinical signs and pathophysiology in dogs and cats.
  • Differentiate from other fly strikes using diagnostic methods.
  • Understand and adhere to protocols for identification of the larvae through submission of samples to appropriate authorities
  • Apply effective treatment, including antiparasitic drugs and wound care.
  • Implement quarantine and biosecurity measures to control spread.
  • Educate clients on prevention, reporting, and available resources for outbreak control.
